About The Contest
It was the winter of 2002, The Event was the Pequot Lake Brush Pilots Annual snowmobile radar run at Breezy Point Ice Fest. Dave Guenther, leading the assembly of the track for the radar run was drilling holes in the frozen lake with his auger. He began thinking about the job and after realizing he had another hundred holes or so ahead of him decided to start timing his hole drilling. That night while sleeping his mind was full of ideas. He kept thinking about the hole drilling and somehow got the idea crossed with the Stil Chain saw Lumberjack Competitions. The next morning he decided to share his idea with a few close friends and they loved the idea.
Knowing that they had stumbled upon a good idea, the team began to organize and decided to involve the Pequot Lakes Fire Department, most of the guys organizing were members anyway. We made contact with Strikemaster Ice Augers and they also loved the idea.
One year later, after many weeks of hard work and preparation we held the "First Annual Power Ice Auger World Championships". With over 30 competitors the event was a huge success. We were overwhelmed with media coverage, and an eager audience.
With the success of the pervious year behind us we began planning for the 2004 contest. sponsors were lined up, location confirmed, and volunteers ready. We introduced a few new divisions and changed some rules for the year. With double the competitors we had another successful year behind us.
Now we are heavily planning for our third annual competition and hope that you are doing the same.
